District Judges Select Jonathan E. Hawley To Serve As U.S. Magistrate Judge In Central Illinois

PEORIA - Chief Judge James E. Shadid announced that Jonathan E. Hawley has been selected as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Central District of Illinois.  The appointment fills the vacancy by the retirement notice of United States Magistrate Judge John A. Gorman, effective February 28, 2014.  The selection is made by the United States District Judges from the Central District of Illinois, after receiving, and considering, a report from the Merit Selection Panel.
 
Mr. Hawley currently serves as the Chief Federal Public Defender for the Central District of Illinois.  He has served in that capacity since October 2011, after previously serving as the First Assistant Federal Public Defender since October 2005.
 
Mr. Hawley attended college at the University of Illinois at Chicago, postgraduate studies in philosophy and theology at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia and law school at the DePaul College of Law in Chicago.
